The Kenney

Seattle

CLIENT: The Kenney

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Landmark nomination

Because of its historic preservation and landmark expertise, NK was selected to help The Kenney Retirement Community navigate the landmark designation process for its 1907 building in a way that would allow for the facility’s future expansion. Over the decades the original Georgian Revival structure, known as the Seaview Building, had been overtaken in a piecemeal fashion by newer buildings, and further expansion required demolition of the heritage structure. In 2009 the building’s exterior and part of the adjacent landscaped yard were declared a landmark. Since then, NK has assisted the design architect in creating several alternative master plans, including a proposal to move the structure several hundred feet across the property. NK and its development partner Euclid Development are advisors assisting in ongoing expansion plans.
